is filling up with all kinds of work. All kinds of nonesense too, and I’m just focused on being focused. Which sometimes sounds like wishing on wishing to my ears, but nevertheless. Its what I’m doin’.
A quick thought about Dark Knight:
You know there’s a layer in there where the lesson is that even the “extraordinary individual” (aka the Superhero) is in fact never the work of one man. Batman isn’t just Bruce Wayne. Batman is Lucius Fox’s ingenuity, Alfred Pennyworth’s humor and wisdom, Jim Gordon’s basic decency (and willingness to be complicit in… ah, but I actually know the last two people to have not seen Dark Knight, so I’ll let that one slide for now).
There was this whole wild thread in the right-wing media (thanks to the Wall Street Journal) about Batman=Dick Chaney. Which is just about as dumb as Roger Ebert’s mistaking the Joker’s multiple choice origin for one of the choices given. And no, he didn’t guess “D- All of the above”, he actually chose the first option, but he’s a tired old man and my love for him is too great to take him to task for the mistake. Well, more than I already have, anyway.
Its the problem with the Right in general… they have a tendency to fit the myth du jour into whatever authoritarian mode they think would be best for their stakeholders. See also “Indiana Jones and the Council of Nicaea” coming soon to a theatre near you.
I hear that one has even more CG Gophers than the last one, but no aliens.
