Naming The Enemy Doesn’t Always Give You Power Over It

Around a year and a half ago I read Steve Pressfield’s “The War of Art” during one of my periodical “bootstrapping” phases. Within the pages of that book Pressfield gives a name to the writer’s ancient enemy- the mixture of self-doubt, procrastination, and general sluggishness that he dubs “Resistance”.

In my own experience Resistance has a physical dimension. When I attempt to settle in to create, nine times out of ten I am confronted by a force that will just straight up try and put me to sleep if the procrastination gambits fail to get me off task. I can feel it now, like somehow my Shadow-self were trying to cut off the flow of oxygen to my head.

Its let up somewhat for this blog entry… then again the blog is part of its procrastination arsenal, and with every line I’m closer to turning my attention back to The Work. Eyes feeling heavy.
